Norwich City star backs Hull City’s deadline day transfer arrival Abu Kamara
The young winger caught the eye with his short second half cameo against his old club
Norwich City defender Shane Duffy has backed Abu Kamara to go on and be a success at Hull City after coming through a difficult day on Saturday.
The 21-year-old made his first return to the club he left on deadline day at the end of August to join the Tigers and came under a barrage of abuse during his warm-up, and then was heckled when he came off the bench in the second half with City 3-0 against the Canaries.
Despite the heckles, Kamara showed some moments of quality, skinning two defenders before crossing for Joao Pedro, who was upended by a fine tackle, before setting up the City debutant with a terrific cross from the left which Pedro turned into the net, only to have his goal chalked off for what referee Tom Nield claimed was a handball.
Kamara applauded both sets of fans at Carrow Road as he made his way off the pitch at the end of the game but received a mixed response from the home stands, and Duffy was one of the Canaries players to go over and speak to the winger before Tigers assistant boss Filip Tapalovic led him down the tunnel.
“I really liked Abu,” the 32-year-old Irishman told the Pink Un. “I didn’t want him to go personally because I thought he could have been valuable for us, but obviously, his head was all over the place, I think. I understand that it’s football and he’s going to get a little bit. I’ve been back to clubs and got it as well. I said to him to keep going. That’s the first one out of the way, and hopefully, it’s done.
“He’s a really top player and a top guy. I wish him all the success. I think he handled it really well (the game) and showed what he can do. I have a lot of respect for Abu and I hope he goes on to achieve big things.”
