It is understood Martial will earn £2.5million per season during his time with AEK, a figure that would see him become the highest paid player in the club’s history. Former Tottenham forward Erik Lamela is reported to be the club’s top earner on roughly £2.1m per season.
Martial is expected to surpass the figure and will also play alongside former Watford players Roberto Pereyra and Nordin Amrabat as well as former Brentford goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.
Taking to social media on Wednesday morning, AEK posted a graphic of their new signing along with a caption urging fans to meet the 28-year-old when he arrives in Athens later in the evening.
“The wizard is coming!!! ⚫️ Meeting at the airport!!! ✈️ Arrival: Anthony Martial Time: 20:40 Location: El. Venizelos airport Meeting point: Exit 7.”
Martial will be hoping to quickly win over his new fans after a troubled final season at United in which he only scored two goals in 19 appearances for the club.
The French forward was reportedly on the verge of signing for Brazilian side Flamengo during the summer but a deal collapsed due to his ‘unworkable’ salary demands.
