Birmingham City hitman Alfie May has stressed just how important the competition for places is at St Andrew’s as Blues look to get promoted.
Blues are the talk of the town in League One after their big money spending in the summer and May was one of their standout arrivals.
He was snapped up from Charlton Athletic and handed a lucrative deal to make the move to St Andrew’s
With such quality in Chris Davies’ squad, there is a battle to get on the team-sheet for every game and May believes that is vital.
He says that Blues have big competition to play, which is key when the club are aiming to get straight back up to the Championship.
“You could ask the 25 lads in the changing room if they want to start and everyone is going to say yes”, May said via Birmingham Live.
“The competition is high and you have to fight for your shirt. I think that’s really important.
“The togetherness we have in the group is fantastic. Everybody wants to do well.
“We want to go back up as a club and the fans are on that journey with us.”
May will come face to face with his former club Charlton Athletic this weekend when Birmingham head to the Valley for a League One clash.

Birmingham City injury updates on Ethan Laird, Dion Sanderson and Lee Buchanan from boss Chris Davies
Ethan Laird could be ready to bolster Birmingham City’s squad after the international break, manager Chris Davies has revealed.
Davies hopes Laird, who hasn’t played since late-August due to an ankle injury, will have returned to full training by the end of the upcoming international break. With Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Alfons Sampsted performing adequately at right-back, Davies doesn’t need to rush Laird back and plans to give him training time to build up his fitness.
“I’m hoping Laird will be much more active in terms of potentially getting involved in training by the end of the international break,” said Davies. “We would then need to build up a good few weeks of training but he’s the closest bar Dion.”
Dion Sanderson played 45 minutes for the under-21s earlier this week after a foot problem and could feature against Shrewsbury Town in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday. Davies added: “He’s the closest to a return. He’s been training and has got some minutes under his belt, day by day he’s getting stronger.”
There is still no return date in mind for Lee Buchanan after the left-back’s latest injury setback. Buchanan returned from a two-month lay-off recently only to succumb to a separate calf issue.
Davies confirmed: “Lee is a bit further behind. He’s got another little issue that’s going to take a bit longer.”
Blues are also without Fulham loanee Luke Harris due to an ankle injury going into Saturday’s League One fixture with Charlton Athletic.
