The Tigers players can look forward to near-30c heat this week
Saturday’s 4-0 hammering at Norwich City brought the curtain down on Hull City’s latest batch of games and now, the Tigers will head off to Turkey for a warm-weather training camp.
City have played five games since the first stoppage in September, kicking off the run with defeat to Sheffield United, before roaring to three straight wins over Stoke City, Cardiff City and QPR and then falling to a comprehensive loss in Norfolk.
The trip, Walter hopes, will act like a mini-pre-season camp and will see his squad travel to Antalya until Saturday with an expectation they will play a behind-closed-doors friendly against Turkish opposition on Wednesday.
Having previously been based at the Regnum Carya resort in Antalya, the Tigers will be based in the same area, but at a nearby hotel with Walter putting his players through double sessions throughout the week.
It’s likely the players will have a light session on arrival on Monday evening, before double sessions on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday before returning home on Saturday before returning to Cottingham as normal next to build up to what looks like a tantalising home clash with Sunderland on Sunday week closely followed by the visit of Burnley.
And though the Tigers’ boss will work his players hard in the Antalya sunshine, he will be keen to put an emphasis on building team spirit and seeing his players bond, with a host of other activities planned to help integrate a host of new signings.
Just Ryan Giles had arrived by the time City flew to Istanbul for their annual pre-season training camp at the start of July, much to Walter’s obvious frustration, but this time round, the majority of the club’s 17 summer arrivals will travel.
The only absentees will be Kasey Palmer, Liam Millar and Oscar Zambrano, who have all been called up to international duty for Jamaica, Canada and Ecuador respectively, with Walter keen to see the likes of Joao Pedro, Steven Alzate, Gustaove Puerta, Chris Bedia and Abu Kamara all use the time to become more accustomed to the City dressing room and the manager’s demanding philosophy.
