KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – After surpassing Kansas City Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez for the franchise’s all-time receptions record on Sunday, tight end Travis Kelce was grateful when discussing it on the latest episode of the New Heights Podcast.
No stranger to setting new marks, Kelce complimented Gonzalez’s historic career making it hard to surpass the record. Both Kelce and Gonzalez are more than 375 catches clear of third place in the Chiefs receptions record book, a spot occupied by Dwayne Bowe.
“(Tony’s) been a mentor to me,” Kelce said. “A lifeline if I ever need it. I f—— love the guy. He’s motivated me in ways that he doesn’t even know.”
Both Kelce and his brother Jason joked it’s not a fake — or hyper-specific — stat for the University of Cincinnati product.
“This is not a LeBron (James) stat,” Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, said, referencing a common segment on the podcast where peculiar stats are brought up. “This is an all-time stat.”
“It’s a pretty legit stat,” Travis said.
Kelce surpassed Gonzalez in the Chiefs’ all-time receptions record in Week 4 of the 2024 season. He entered the season nine catches shy of Gonzalez, but a slow statistical start through the first four weeks for the 12th-year tight end put the accomplishment on hold.
“It’s crazy how everything comes full circle, man,” Kelce said. “Not only being in conversations with Tony, but being at the top of the leaderboard with the Kansas City Chiefs who have been around since the ‘60s and have been such a unbelievable organization in the National Football League — I love Kansas City and the Chiefs and the opportunity that I’ve had here in KC.”
Kelce said he’s spent his entire career working to match Gonzalez’s productivity.
“To be in conversations,” Kelce said, “not to say I am as good as Tony or to say that I’ve surpassed Tony, to be in a conversation as cool as this — having as many receptions in the organization he spent the majority of his career in is just an honor, man.”

Bravo Developing Reality Show About Kansas City Chiefs WAGs, Still Determining Final Cast Members (Exclusive Source)
The spotlight may soon be shifting off the field and onto the lives of some Kansas City Chiefs’ wives and girlfriends.
A source exclusively tells PEOPLE that Bravo is currently filming a reality show about the WAGs supporting the back-to-back Super Bowl winners. While the show is only in development and the cast list has yet to be officially determined, it will potentially include Mecole Hardman Jr.’s fiancé Chariah Gordon and Sheawna Weathersby, who shares two kids with defensive tackle Chris Jones.
“There’s still lots to figure out, including who would be a part of the final cast and whether there’s enough there to build a full series around. It’s very much a work in progress,” the source tells PEOPLE.
Both Gordon and Weathersby have consistently shown support for their significant others, during this season and seasons past. Recently, they posed for photos with fellow Chiefs WAG Taylor Swift as she cheered on boyfriend Travis Kelce during a home game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Gordon shared multiple pictures to Instagram, with one selfie showing the trio posing in front of a photo of Kelce in his number 87 jersey on the wall.
Another full-length shot showed the pals posing with Swift in the middle, while a further clip showed Swift and Gordon hugging excitedly at the game.
