Goodwin Demands Lifetime Ban for Missile-Throwing Thugs After Dons Attack at Tannadice

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has called for a lifetime ban for those responsible for throwing missiles at him during a heated match against Aberdeen at Tannadice. The former Dons boss was targeted by a barrage of bottles and coins in disgraceful scenes that marred an otherwise competitive encounter.

Goodwin, who spent a significant period managing Aberdeen, was subjected to a vile and dangerous attack from a small group of supporters during the Scottish Premiership fixture. The incident unfolded in the second half of the match when objects, including bottles and coins, were hurled at the Dundee United manager from the away section, narrowly missing him. The attack came after Goodwin’s team, Dundee United, took a commanding lead, sparking anger among a minority of the visiting supporters.

Speaking after the match, Goodwin expressed his outrage and concern over the safety of everyone at the stadium, particularly the players, coaching staff, and officials who were exposed to such violent behavior. “This is completely unacceptable, and we cannot let this type of behavior go unpunished,” he said. “These people have no place in football, and I firmly believe they should be banned for life. This sport is meant to bring people together, not to create fear and hatred.”

The match was briefly halted as stadium staff and security officials worked to restore order and ensure the safety of those on the pitch. However, the incident has led to widespread condemnation from both clubs and the Scottish Football Association (SFA), with many calling for stricter measures to deal with such antisocial behavior.

Aberdeen’s club officials also condemned the actions of the individuals responsible, with a club spokesperson saying they were “disgusted” by the incident. “We do not tolerate violence of any kind, and we fully support the call for lifetime bans for those involved,” they stated.

The SFA has promised a thorough investigation into the matter and vowed to take appropriate action to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also urged both clubs and fans to work together to ensure that stadiums remain safe and welcoming environments for all involved.

As for Goodwin, while he acknowledged the need for accountability and justice, he made it clear that no amount of punishment could fully erase the trauma caused by the attack. “It’s a sad day for football when a manager is forced to deal with something like this,” he said, his voice tinged with disbelief and anger.
