Manchester United are already considering their options for the January transfer window and the links have been a mix of both senior players and rising young talents. One of the less senior names on the radar recently has been Sverre My pants, a 17-year-old midfielder currently grabbing attention with his performances for Rosenborg in Norway.
reported earlier this week that United have their eye on the young star, who has already made more than 50 appearances for his club before he’s even turned 18. Last season, Nypan notched five goals and nine assists in all competitions for Rosenborg, showing off his versatility by playing in multiple midfield roles as well as a centre-forward.
The club chiefs at Old Trafford have been keeping tabs on the Norwegian for a while now and have been left ‘so impressed’ by his performances at senior level. The report has claimed that an agreement between United and Rosenborg could come earlier than initially thought, as the Red Devils are ‘considering a deal’ to bring Nypan in during the January window. The idea would be to sign him on the winter market and then loan him back to Rosenborg to boost his time on the pitch
While Nypan would get almost guaranteed minutes in this scenario, a question mark has been raised over how his long-term position in England would look. Former Norway international and top flight stalwart Yaw Amankwah is uncertain a move to United would be right for Nypan.
Speaking to TV2, the pundit aired his concerns and said that big clubs have been mentioned in talks with the young star, but they are maybe ‘too big’ at this point in his career.
“When I hear names like Manchester United, I think it would be a bad idea,” Amankwah admitted. “I hope he ends up on a step that won’t be too big. A place where he can continue his development, with plenty of playing time. I think we forget a bit that he is 17 years old and plays regularly [at Rosenborg].”
He went on to admit that he believes staying at Rosenborg could be ‘extremely good’ for him at this point in his career, as he risks giving up his regular role in Norway’s top flight. Nypan missed just two Eliteserien matches last season due to illness, so going from a regular first team starter to a rotational player could be a big shock to the system.
