Manchester United absolutely thrashed Barnsley 7-0 on Tuesday night, after the game one man was the clear man of the match.Despite a win being more than expected, a 7-0 thumping is better than anyone could have expected from the game by Manchester United, a record win under Ten Hag and among the club’s best.
Erik ten Hag will have been delighted as his side were excellent defensively, not even conceding a shot on target.
In the thrashing, Alejandro Garnacho was the standout star, with his breakout season continuing and he now has seven goal contributions in six games.
He was joined on the scoresheet by a Marcus Rashford brace, a Christian Eriksen brace and an Antony penalty.
Now fans have been voting for the man of the match.
Alejandro Garnacho named man of the match
After such an immense display from United, selecting just one man of the match would always be tricky, but after two goals and two assists, Garnacho was the obvious choice.
On the official club website, fans have been voting and one player came out as the commanding winner.
- Alejandro Garnacho – 44 per cent
- Marcus Rashford – 29 per cent
- Christian Eriksen- 18 per cent
- Manuel Ugarte – 3 per cent
- All others had 2 per cent or less
Garnacho received almost half the entire vote, and rightfully so as he shone above all others, which proved his increased importance for United – which this season is multiplying.
Runner up to Garnacho was Rashford who also enjoyed an excellent game, scoring twice and assisting once.
Against League One opposition a dominant outing like this was expected so we cannot take too much away from it – however if United are even half as decisive and clinical against Crystal Palace, it could end up another impressive win.
