Tottenham could leave Sergio Reguilon out of their 25-man Premier League squad after failing to secure a move away, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 27-year-old is unlikely to win any favour at Tottenham unless a “major crisis” takes place.
Tottenham have made the defender aware that he will not feature in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the coming season and that they are open to letting him leave.
However, while the transfer window has closed across Europe, a late move to either Turkey or Greece where the windows remain open looks unlikely.
Sources say there is “no way back” into the squad for the left-back, and he will likely now be sidelined until the January transfer window.
With just one year left on his deal, the defender is now expected to leave Tottenham for good either in January or for free next summer.
Sergio Reguilon has no future at Tottenham after new twist
Having spent last season out on loan at Manchester United and Brentford, Postecoglou has made it clear that Reguilon no longer has a future in North London.
There had been links with a move away during the summer transfer window amid interest from Barcelona, as revealed by Football Insider, but no bid arrived.
Tottenham had also entered the idea of letting him leave for a slashed price, but no formal offers materialised and he looks set to remain at Spurs.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, the Spaniard will be available to discuss moves over a free transfer from January onwards.
Spurs will also entertain any bids that arrive in January unless a dramatic injury crisis changes their stance, with Reguilon’s future no longer with the club.
Destiny Udogie remains the number one left-back under Postecoglou and is unlikely to be displaced given his importance to the manager’s system.
Meanwhile, the boss does not see Reguilon as a good fit for the style, and is unlikely to call upon him at any stage in the coming season.
