Luton Town Football Club has secured the services of highly-rated wing-back Alfie Doughty by signing him to a new three-year contract that will keep him at Kenilworth Road until 2028. The 24-year-old has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes and expressed his enthusiasm about continuing his journey with the Hatters.

Since joining Luton Town from Stoke City just over two years ago, Doughty has overcome initial injury challenges to become a pivotal figure in the team’s promotion to the Premier League. His versatility allows him to operate effectively on both flanks, primarily excelling as a left wing-back. In his tenure with the club, Doughty has made 84 appearances, scoring five goals and providing numerous assists. His attributes—work rate, pace, precise crossing, and threat from set pieces—have endeared him to fans and teammates alike.

Reflecting on his decision to extend his stay, Doughty shared his aspirations: “I want to get back into the Premier League with Luton, especially after this couple of years we’ve had.” He further emphasized his connection to the club, stating, “I love the club, and I’m happy to stay.”

Manager Rob Edwards lauded Doughty’s commitment, highlighting his consistent performances and dedication since pre-season. Edwards noted, “Alfie is very motivated… he’s created a lot of chances for us.” He expressed his delight in securing Doughty’s future, acknowledging his popularity among fans and within the squad.

This contract extension aligns with the club’s strategic vision, mirroring the recent renewal of manager Rob Edwards’ contract until 2028. Edwards expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with Luton Town, stating, “I’m really pleased… I feel really excited to extend our stay.”

The synchronization of Doughty’s and Edwards’ contract extensions underscores Luton Town’s commitment to building a stable and competitive team. With key figures secured for the long term, the club aims to regain its Premier League status and continue its upward trajectory in English football.
