Kyren Lacy, former LSU Tigers wide receiver, dies at 24 before grand jury hearing

A future NFL wide receiver. A future successful football player is no more. Kyren Lacy was facing five years in prison with a fine of $5,000 if found guilty of negligent homicide. Lacy’s NFL career was at risk. “These kids gotta understand one mistake doesn’t define who they are. Kyren Lacy had so much life ahead of him I really hate to hear that” – wrote an X user by the name of D. KNIGHT. 24-year-old Kyren Lacy, a former Louisiana State University football wide receiver was found dead in Houston on Saturday night as reported by WAFB and Reuters. The suspected cause of death is suicide, according to the New York Post. The 2025 NFL prospect was involved in a car crash that killed a 78-year-old former U.S. Marine and injured two other people in December 2024.

The car crash happened in December 2024. Officers who reached the car crash site claimed that 24-year-old former LSU Tigers wide receiver, Kyren Lacy was driving on Louisiana Highway 20 when he crossed the center line and began driving against the oncoming traffic to go ahead of the slower vehicles. Lacy had fled the scene.

Lacy faced the following charges – negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle at Chackbay, Louisiana. Kyren Lacy was arrested earlier this year but was out on bail of $151,000.

The grand jury was scheduled to hear the evidence of Kyren Lacy’s car crash case on Monday. But before that could happen, 24-year-old Kyren Lacy was found dead in Houston on Saturday. Precisely, two days before the grand jury hearing on his car crash case.

As reported by The Mirror US, Kyren Lacy’s lawyer said, “Kyren was scheduled to have his matter heard before a grand jury tomorrow wherein we were very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges.”
