FSU QB Pledge Kevin Sperry Explains His Flip from Oklahoma, Why FSU Was the Right Fit

Kevin Sperry, a highly sought-after quarterback prospect, made waves in the college football recruiting world when he flipped his commitment from the University of Oklahoma to Florida State University. The 2025 four-star quarterback out of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, shared the story of his recruitment process, explaining how his decision evolved and why Florida State ultimately became the perfect fit for his future.

Sperry initially committed to Oklahoma in the summer of 2023, following a standout sophomore season. However, as time went on, he found himself reassessing his priorities and thinking about the long-term vision for his football career. The turning point came after a visit to Florida State during the summer of 2024. “The relationship with Coach [Mike] Norvell and the coaching staff was really important to me,” Sperry explained. “I felt a strong connection with them from the moment I stepped on campus. The culture they’ve built at FSU is something I wanted to be part of.”

For Sperry, the decision to flip was about more than just football. “It’s about where I’ll be able to grow, not only as a player but as a person,” he said. “FSU offered me the chance to compete at a high level, but also a place where I felt comfortable and supported. The vibe around the program, the energy, it felt like home.”

Florida State’s offensive scheme and its track record of developing quarterbacks were major factors in Sperry’s decision. With offensive coordinator Alex Atkins at the helm, FSU has made significant strides in its offensive play-calling and recruiting. Sperry, a dual-threat quarterback with impressive mobility and arm strength, sees FSU as the ideal place to continue his development and showcase his skills.

“FSU is known for its quarterback success and the ability to develop players,” Sperry noted. “I feel like the system at FSU is a perfect fit for my style of play. Coach Atkins has shown he can make quarterbacks successful in a pro-style offense, and that’s something I’m excited to be a part of.”

Moreover, Sperry’s family played an integral role in the decision-making process. The close-knit nature of the Seminoles’ football program, along with the commitment to player development, reassured Sperry that Florida State was where he could thrive both academically and athletically.

In the end, Sperry’s flip to FSU wasn’t just about finding the right football program. It was about finding a place that felt like a perfect fit for his growth as a player and a person—a place where he could chase his dreams while building lasting relationships. As the future of Florida State football begins to take shape, Sperry’s commitment serves as a symbol of the program’s upward trajectory.
